Description

A stone cannonball recovered from the wreck of the 1622 galleon Nuestra Señora de Atocha. The sphere was shaped by hand and hammered peck-marks are seen on the surface. Stone shot was meant to shatter on firing and blast an opponent with fragments. This piece is riddled with holes showing the activity of boring marine mollusks from its time underwater.
