A small whetstone or sharpening stone was recovered from the shipwreck of the London-based slaver Henrietta Marie measures 10.4 centimeters long, 3.3 cm wide, and 1.9 cm thick. This stone would have been used on the ship to keep smaller, edged instruments such as knives, scissors, and chisels sharp. This naturally-layered stone, with its gray and yellow strata, is typical of the highly-regarded Belgian Coticule variety.
