A 24.5cm long bone fragment from the wreck of the 1700 slave ship Henrietta Marie likely belonged to a cow and represents beef carried on board the ship as food. Though human bones could survive underwater, and the Henrietta Marie transported over 200 African captives across the Atlantic, those people had been sold in Jamaica before the ship sank; they did not perish off the Florida Coast. A crew of approximately 18 men did go down with the ship, but none of their remains have been found.
