Description
A crude lead ingot comes from the wreck of the 1622 galleon Santa Margarita. This piece is a “splash” type ingot, created by pouring molten metal into a shallow depression in the ground. Lead would have had a variety of uses on a galleon, but it is quite likely that this ingot was carried for soldiers to cast musketballs from. It 39.5 centimeters long, 17.3 centimeters wide, and weighs 16.33 kilograms.
